lyrics
Bought a brand new goblet yesterday,
For your sacrament alone,
I will lap it up and smile and say,
Oh I’ve never loved you more,
Got a last wish and a rosary,
I am waiting at your door,
Tell me how many repentances,
‘Till I can drink from you once more,
Bleed for me, oh,
Bleed for me, oh,
Sanitize my organs,
‘Till I’m clean as a new born,
Bleed for me, oh,
Bleed for me, oh,
Sanitize my guts ‘till,
I’m unrecognizable,
My cup’s an ornament of pleading,
I’ll never let it leave my palm,
Make desperation look so elegant,
Pretend it’s grapes that stain my tongue,
Chorus
I’m getting thirstier again,
It seems I need you here again,
You’re growing paler and I know,
A waif can’t satiate my throat,
But please,
On the making of Sacrament:
“Sacrament” was the last song recorded for “Something to Complain About”, included after the project was thought to be at capacity in tracks. This song snuck up on the album with its eerier & darker themes that brought a new depth to the project. This track’s lyrics use dark religious imagery to tell a story of guilt and yearning in love while its sonic elements create an environment much like an echoing, empty church. The light acoustic guitar, haunting harmonies, eerie organ and synths grow in tension until the song’s final plea “sanitize my guts ‘til I’m unrecognizable”.
